Beauty Suite: Maybelline Big Shot Mascara Full Review

Maybelline has recently created a brand new version of mascara from their line of Colossal Mascaras. The new Colossal Big Shot Volume Express Mascara is designed to load volume in one coat. Big, bold lashes only bosses can wear is the meaning of their slogan, Lash Like A Boss. According to Maybelline, the brush on the mascara has a unique design with wavy bristles that cradle lashes, while the collagen formula delivers bold volume. Set to launch at the beginning of 2017, the Maybelline promises the biggest, boldest, bossiest lashes yet. 

When I first heard about the Big Shot Mascara, I was anxious to give it a try. I saw that the beauty influencers were the first on the list to receive the mascara and they all swore by it. With their reviews in hand, I wanted to see if their reviews were not just for hype. 

My prayers have been answered! 

I received a notification from Influenster that I would receive a complimentary Big Shot Mascara for testing in my VoxBox for their campaign with Maybelline. I was thrilled that I was going to have the most anticipated mascara, especially since I was in need of some new mascara anyway. Once I received my VoxBox, I was impressed with the gold packaging that ties along with their slogan perfectly. 

My Issues with Maybelline Colossal Mascara

Going back to 2009, I remember being introduced to the Maybelline Colossal mascara and I used it for years. I discontinued using the mascara two years ago because of the smell of the formula. Also, the smell seemed to have gotten worse over time. After I had stopped using the Colossal Mascara, I tried out different mascaras to see if it will deliver the same amount of volume without the harsh smell. When I discovered the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, it lived up to my expectations.

So the Testing Begins...

Now that I have the Big Shot Mascara in my possession, it was time to give it a try. I was a little apprehensive due to my experiences with the odor from the Colossal Mascara. I mean, who wouldn't. Not to mention, I was not the only one who had the same issue. I decided to have an open mind and go for it. I noticed that the mascara did not have the harsh smell which is a plus. Now I was wondering if the beauty bloggers were just "hyping" up the mascara, but this mascara definitely lives up to its hype. The first application, I noticed instant volume. My natural eyelashes are curly, and I was impressed how the mascara defined them without adding clumps. Usually, I apply three coats and I am good. After I applied my third coat of the Big Shot Mascara, it appeared as I was wearing false eyelashes.

During my trial week of the Big Shot Mascara, I received many compliments and inquiries of what kind of false lashes I was wearing. I noticed that I did not need to keep reapplying and it lasts all day. After 12 hours of wear, each day, the mascara was still intact, and my lashes looked great.

My eyes are tired after a long day, but the mascara is still intact.

My Verdict

The Maybelline Big Shot Mascara is a winner. If you are looking for a mascara that gives you the appearance of wearing false lashes that last all day without clumps or a harsh smell, then I would recommend this mascara. Maybelline has great products that work just as great as prestige products that are half the cost. After my experience with the Big Shot Mascara, I can add this mascara to my list of drugstore favorites.
