Four Reasons Why I Rebranded
Happy October! It's a new month, and we are just under 100 days remaining of 2018. I remember at the beginning of this year, I read through my list of goals I wanted to achieve for 2018 and I can honestly tell you that rebranding was not one of them. However, I did indicate through prayer for an increase in my business and craft.
Needless to say, I am SohoGlam was my baby and everyone knew it. I loved my blog tremendously and the opportunities it has given me thus far.
But God said otherwise...
During one of my monthly fasts, God spoke to me about my journey towards full entrepreneurship. He told me that I need to let my blog grow into a complete brand and with that, the first thing you must do is change its name.
God, are you serious? I am SohoGlam is my baby and I am not ready to change its name!
Granted, this is a real conversation I am having with God about what I intended about my blog, yet alone my social media handle, JayChantelle. He said you must let it go and allow me to deliver. With that being said, I had numerous conversations with my mother about changing the name of my blog so it can grow into a full-service brand. As much as I wanted to hold on to I am SohoGlam and JayChantelle, it was time to retire their names and start the rebranding process.
So the question is... Why did I decide to rebrand? Let me tell you why.
Reason Number One: My brand name must stay consistent.
I am SohoGlam initially began as a blog. When I decided to engage in my makeup artistry and become a makeup artist, I needed a name. Honestly, I did not want to refer my artistry as I am SohoGlam. I was applying it under the hashtag, #paintingprettywithjay. Secondly, I started a podcast called, The Beauty Suite. Third, all of my social media handles are named, JayChantelle. Fourth, to which, many may not know, I have a second blog titled, The Beauty Suite. When I attend events or if I am exchanging my business information, I would have to give a rundown and disclaimer of all of my names, and it was a complete mess. Not to mention, the agony of managing multiple Instagram accounts! I was tired of doing that and most business owners, influencers, bloggers, etc. are pretty much consistent and have one name across the board. To sum it up, I was carrying way too many names, and they need to be more consistent. Consistency is one of the keys to success in whatever you do.
Reason Number Two: It was time to level up for more opportunities.
I must be honest; I can be stuck in my ways. That was one of the main reasons why it was extremely hard for me to let my names go. I had to grow up and allow my faith to take over. It was difficult to explain to people why I had so many names, and I am sure I was being viewed as someone who is all over the place. I have goals that I want to achieve, and I conducted plenty of research. In Branding 101, you must engage in the following:
Know your audience.
Define your story.
Brand through association.
Develop customer loyalty.
Focus on the three C’s: Consistency, Community and Content.
Even though I developed my brand identity, it was time to bring it all together. I want to work with new clients and potential brands, and I need them to take my brand seriously.
Reason Number Three: My work needs to be taken more seriously, especially that I want to partner and collaborate with brands.
When it comes to partnering or collaborating with brands, it is important to sell yourself as if your life is depending on it. No reputable brand will work with anyone who is all over the place or has a clear brand identity. It shows that you are not confident in what you are presenting and selling to potential partners. I had to take notice of fellow influencers who are succeeding with brands and learn from their platforms. The last thing you want to do is not making a good first impression while pitching to brands.
Reason Number Four: I am planning to offer more solutions and services.
One of my goals for 2018 was to launch my podcast. Now that we are approaching 2019, I am planning on adding more services to my roster. I couldn’t make this possible with my old brand. Now that I have a clear purpose of solutions I plan to bring to my audience; it is easier to add my new services and execute them without any questions or hesitations. The last thing you want is your audience not to have a clear understanding of what you are providing to them.
Being an entrepreneur is an experience where only the strongest survive. There are plenty of good days along with the hard ones. The best part is watching your vision unfold as long as you continue to put in the work and stay consistent. It is also okay to ask for help along the way. Continue to stay focused and do not allow any distractions come in between YOU and YOUR VISION!

Be great and amazing,
I don’t know about you, but since the pandemic began, I changed how I wear my makeup while wearing my mask. I am sure a lot of us can relate. We have watered down our makeup looks. Before I begin to share how I wear my makeup, let me remind you to throw away your masks! I strongly recommend wearing a disposable mask and throwing it away at the end of the day.
